Strength training isn't a luxury for women. It's a necessity.

Why it Matters

From age 30, women begin losing muscle mass. From age 35, bone density starts to decline, and through perimenopause, that decline accelerates rapidly. Most women don’t find out until it’s already well underway.

The research is clear. The medical community is catching up. Doctors are now actively recommending strength training as one of the most powerful things women can do for their long-term health.

And that’s exactly what we do at HerWay. Strength Studio, Ipswich’s only accredited women’s strength training studio.

What Strength Training Can Support For Women

Muscle mass Women lose 3–8% of muscle mass per decade from age 30, accelerating to 5–10% after 50. Strength training is one of the most effective tools to help preserve your strength, metabolism, and independence as you age.

Bone health From age 35, bone density begins to decline. Once perimenopause hits, women can lose up to 1–3% of bone density every year. Research suggests resistance training may help support bone formation and slow that decline, alongside other lifestyle and medical approaches recommended by your doctor.

Reduced risk of certain diseases Research indicates that regular strength training may help lower the risk of osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and age-related cognitive decline, as part of an overall healthy lifestyle.

Mental health and wellbeing Studies suggest strength training can support a reduction in anxiety and depression, and may help improve sleep quality, self-esteem, and mental clarity.

Strength training is one piece of the puzzle. We always recommend speaking with your GP or healthcare provider about what’s right for your individual health needs.
